There are several campgrounds within the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge:  Crab Orchard Campground, Little Grassy Campground and Marina,
Devils Kitchen Campground, and the Blue Heron Campground and Marina (formerly the Crab Orchard Yacht Club).

The Crab Orchard Lake Campground is undergoing some facility enhancements. Refuge personnel are currently making improvements at the Crab Orchard Lake Campground utilizing recreation fee dollars. These improvements include upgrading electric service, adding water, new grills, enlarging campsites, and adding sewer to some of the sites. The Campground is projected to reopen by April 30, 2010. The new camping fees for the Crab Orchard Lake Campground are:

Camping enthusiasts rejoice! Fern Clyffe State Park in Goreville, IL is a haven for all types of campers--modern, primitive, youth groups, backpack or equestrian. 

Deer Ridge Campground is a well-shaded Class A facility offering gravel pads with electricity, picnic tables and cooking grills. Drinking water, showers, flush toilets and a sanitary dump station complete the setting for campers who prefer to include a few comforts of home with their outdoor adventure.

Turkey Ridge is for campers who want a serene outdoor experience. It is a Class C walk-in campground that includes camp pads, picnic tables, cooking grills and showers. Drinking water and toilets are located near the parking lots.

Scouts, church groups and other youth groups will enjoy the Youth Group Campground. This Class D facility is equipped with drinking water, picnic tables, cooking grills, toilets and parking. See DNR for rules and regulations.

Backpackers will appreciate the solitude of the individual campsites in the Class C Backpack Campground. Located a half-mile from the Turkey Ridge primitive campground parking lot, these woodland sites have cooking grills, toilets and showers.

Up to 25 riders can be accommodated at the Class C Equestrian Campground, which includes picnic tables, drinking water, cooking grills, toilets, parking and showers. See DNR for rules and regulations.

Sites in the Deer Ridge, Turkey Ridge and Youth Group campgrounds do not require advance reservations. Backpackers and horseback riders should, however, make advance arrangements through the park office. Certain rules and regulations that are not specified here and are in existence, and potential campers should see the Department of Natural Resources for more information before visiting Fern Clyffe State Park. Please be responsible humans and pack out what you pack in!

* Park hours are open 6 AM–10 PM year round.
* Alcohol is prohibited in the park from September 1–May 3, in the day use areas.
* Pets must be kept on a leash at all times.
* Camping is on a first come, first served basis.
* There are no camping reservations taken at Giant City State Park.
* All campers have access to a shower house.
* Discounts are available Monday–Thursday to Illinois residents age 62–80.
* No Alcohol September 1st - May 31st

Class A Family Campground consists of 85 sites. These sites have electricity, access to water, and sewage dump station. The fee is $20.00 per site ($30.00 on holidays).

Class A Horse Campground consists of 25 sites. These sites are for people who bring horses to the park with the intent of riding the 12-mile horse trail. All sites have electricity, access to water, and hitching posts. Use of sewage dump station at the Family Campground is permitted. The fee is $20.00 per site ($30.00 on holidays).

Class C Tent Camping Area consists of 14 sites and is located at the back of the Family Campground. These basic camping sites for tents only have access to water. The feel is $8.00 per site.

Primitive/Red Cedar Campground consists of 8 sites and is accessible via the 12-mile Red Cedar Backpacking Trail. The camp is located at the halfway point on the trail. Hiking time is estimated at 4 hours to reach the camping area. Permits can be purchased at the Visitor's Center and must be obtained by noon. You must pack out what you pack in and bring your own water. The fee is $8.00 per night.

Group Campground charges a youth group fee on the basis of $2.00 per person, with a $20.00 minimum. For adult groups, prior approval from the Site Superintendent is required. The fee for this type of group camping is $4.00 per person with a $40.00 minimum.

General information regarding:
*Camping - This campground is open all year and check out time is 2:00 p.m. Please put your campsite number on your self-serve pay envelope. Camping is limited to 14 days at the same developed recreation site.

*Firewood - Dead tree debris on the ground may be used for fire. Living trees, shrubs and plants must not be cut or damaged.

*Horseback riding – Please use designated horse trails in the multi-family campground area. No horseback riding is allowed in single-family campground, hike-in campground, picnic, swim or boat ramp areas.

*Swimming - Swimming hours are 6:00 a.m. to dusk daily, approximately May through September. There are no lifeguards on duty. No glass containers are allowed on the beach.

*Pets – Pets should be confined to a leash and are not allowed on beaches or in the water.
