Von Jakob Vineyard owners Dr. Paul and Rhoda Jacobs welcome you to experience "Little Germany" here in southern Illinois. Von Jakob Vineyard has two locations, the original vineyard in Pomona, IL, and orchard location in Alto Pass, IL. The older vineyard location is smaller and more secluded, offering visitors a quiet, relaxed atmosphere amid the vines and pastures. The newer tasting room constructed along Highway 127 in Alto Pass is a larger, extremely popular venue, with free music and full lunch menu on the weekends. Free wine tastings include up to five wines from Von Jakob Vineyards' extensive selection of over twenty vintages. Von Jakob boasts a unique Honey Mead series of wines and the area's first Cabernet Sauvignon vintage. 

Enjoy gorgeous views from highest vineyard in southern Illinois off the deck at Von Jakob Vineyards in Alto Pass. Visitors will enjoy ample space to grab a seat or move about with a spacious deck, large tasting room and atrium with fireplace. A full lunch menu is available on weekends, with lighter fare available throughout the week. Von Jakob is famous for Grapevine-Smoked Barbecue. Most menu items are priced at $5.00, and have received excellent reviews from Shawnee Shuttle guests.

At the vineyard in Pomona the tasting room resembles a German cottage, surrounded by green pastures and rows of grapevines. The atmosphere here is queiter, barring the rare musical guest, and a more perfect place to unwind is hard to imagine. A large fireplace and enclosed porch area keep visitors warm during chilly months. Cheese and cracker trays available most weekends in season. The tasting room is generally run by veteran hostess, Dallas, who is sure to make you chuckle during your tasting and make you feel welcome with a big smile.

Visitors may now enjoy the Cottage Suites at Von Jakob Vineyard for overnight accommodations. Von Jakob Vineyards hosts private dinners on Friday evenings by reservation only. See Von Jakob for reservations and menus.

Von Jakob Vineyards Wine Selection:

Chardonel - A dry white wine aged in french oak barrels. Hints of citrus and cinnamon.

Cave Creek - A dry white wine aged in medium oak barrels made from Vidal Blanc grapes. Strong floral notes. 

Hillside White - A semi-dry white wine mad from Vidal Blanc grapes. Citrus and floral aromas.

Traminette Semi-Dry- A semi-dry white wine made from a cross of Gewürztraminer grapes with peach, pineapple and ginger notes.

Traminette Semi-Sweet - A semi-sweet white wine with the same qualities described above, only sweeter.

Little Grand Canyon Gold - A sweet white wine made from Vidal Blanc grapes. Floral notes.

Jonathan Apple - A sweet white wine made from southern Illinois-grown Jonathan apples. Crisp and juicy.

Late Harvest Vidal - A sweet white wine with refreshing apricot flavors.

Chateau Red - A dry red wine made from a blend of Foch, Chancellor and Chambourcin grapes. Spicy black cherry aroma with rich, smoky character.

American Chambourcin - A dry, medium-bodied red wine comparable to a Pinot Noir. Lightly oaked.

Chambourcin - A dry, oak-aged red wine with notes of blackberry, licorice and chocolate.

Cabernet Sauvignon - A dry, full-bodied red wine. The first Cabernet grown, produced and released by an Illinois vineyard.

Hillside Red - A semi-dry red wine made from Chambourcine grapes. Fruit aromas with a hint of oak.

Country Red - A semi-sweet red wine made from a blend of Foch, Chancellor and Chambourcin grapes. Black cherry aroma

Ridge Red - A sweet red wine bursting with the robust flavor of rip Concord grapes.

White Chambourcin - A semi-sweet blush wine with rose aromas and fruity flavors.

Kroshenfeler - A sweet medium-bodied blend of Chardonel and Concord grapes. Very fruity.

Honey Mead Series

Honey Blackberry - A sweet blend of rose honey mead and blackberry. Mild berry, fruity flavor.

Honey Blush - A sweet blend of honey mead and concord grapes. A Von Jakob classic.

Honey Peach - A semi-sweet blend of honey mead and peaches.

Honey Raspberry - A sweet blend of honey mead and raspberries.

White Oak Port - A sweet port wine made from a blend of 50% Chardonel grapes and 50% Vidal Blanc grapes. Illinois' first white port.

Red Oak Port - A sweet port wine made from Chambourcin grapes.

She's a Peach - A sweet dessert wine made from fresh peaches grown in Von Jakob's orchard.
